Runners for hall & kitchen
Runners are narrow, long rugs for places where a regular rug won't fit: a hallway, the path alongside a kitchen unit, the space next to a bed. At Lavinta, they range from 200 to 425 cm long and 60 to 135 cm wide, so there's usually one that fits your hallway perfectly down to the centimeter.
More about choosing runners
What size do you need?
Measure your hallway and subtract about 10 to 15 cm from both sides, so that a strip of floor remains visible. This looks calmer than a runner that goes from wall to wall, and it reduces wear and tear along the skirting boards. The same applies to the length: leave some space at the beginning and end, and do not place the runner tightly against a door that opens inwards.
Hand-knotted or flat-woven
Our vintage runners are hand-knotted in Turkey, decades old, and then washed and low-sheared. They have a short pile that feels soft and deepens the colors. The kilim runners are flat-woven in Afghanistan: no pile, a sleek graphic pattern, and usable on two sides — handy in a high-traffic area.
Where to place it
- Hallway and entrance — choose a length that covers at least two-thirds of the hallway; shorter looks like a mat.
- Kitchen — a low pile is more practical here, and a patterned rug hides crumbs and splashes better than a plain rug.
- Bedroom — two runners along either side of the bed often work better than one large rug underneath.

Rugs from Lavinta
A rug in the kitchen? Should I really? The kitchen is the most used place in the house, for many of us. We eat there, live there, cook there, and make messes there. Before you know it, rice is flying through the air and a sandwich is on the floor. Especially when you have little ones running around the house, you worry about stains on your carpet. What if you choose a modern rug or one of our other beautiful rugs for the kitchen? How does your carpet stay clean and undamaged? Some rugs are more suitable for kitchens than others. When it comes to rugs for the kitchen, you might consider a (modern) rug made of sisal, vinyl, or plastic. These materials are very easy to keep clean, making them ideal carpets. Vinyl is a durable material made from plastic, used for floors as well as rugs. Because vinyl is plastic, it's easy to clean and maintain. For example, simply vacuum it, which quickly removes dust and dirt from the vinyl of your rug. Choose a kitchen rug quickly!
