Why a purple vintage rug?

Purple is historically the color of kings, mystics, and creatives — so rare in ancient times that only the wealthiest could afford crimson. A purple vintage rug brings that aura of rarity and allure back to your interior. It is a distinctive choice that shows character; never a safe choice, always one that guests will talk about.

The purple hues in our collection

Our purple vintage rugs range from soft lilac and lavender through mauve and orchid to mystical violet and deep aubergine. Some pieces have a red undertone (plum, magenta), others lean towards blue (indigo-purple). True purple in handmade vintage rugs is rare — often combined with gold, blue, or magenta accents in the patterns. No two pieces are identical.

Which interior style suits purple?

Purple works best in styles that allow for boldness. Bohemian and eclectic living embraces purple along with velvet cushions, oriental details, and plants. Art deco interiors resonate with deep aubergine and gold. In classic or romantic bedrooms, lilac brings pure sophistication. For those who love maximalism: purple is perhaps the most dramatic color there is.

Combining with other colors

Purple demands attention but combines elegantly. Works beautifully with: grey (especially warm grey and taupe), silver and copper, dark wood, navy blue, cream, and soft beige tones. With green-grey (sage), a calm, regal atmosphere is created. Avoid: bright orange (clashes immediately), bright yellow (competes), and too many pink shades (overlap with purple).

Which size fits?

Because purple is a striking color, the rug can be prominently placed in the room. In a living room, plan for at least 200×300 cm so that the rug defines the seating area. In the bedroom, from 170×240 cm works well; it is precisely here that purple comes into its own due to the intimate atmosphere. Under the dining table: at least 60 cm around the table so that chairs do not slide off. Our size guide with visual examples per room will help you further.

Maintenance of handmade wool

Our purple vintage rugs are made of wool — naturally dirt-resistant and durable. Regular vacuuming (without a beater bar) is sufficient; always blot stains immediately with a clean white cloth (never rub). Purple shades are slightly more sensitive to UV — preferably do not place the rug in bright sunlight or rotate it 1-2 times a year for even wear and color retention. With this care, your purple vintage rug will remain in top condition for decades.
